Application Virtualization Engineer
The “Application Virtualization Engineer” role is part of the Global Infrastructure Digital Workplace (DW) organization. The DW team has a global responsibility of providing service and support for technologies used by nearly 100,000 users.
Key Role:
- This Role will be responsible for Virtual Desktop application delivery. This person will be assisting with the management of new application requests from acceptance, through packaging and personalization to end-user testing and validation.
- A successful candidate will be self-motivated, and proactive, and demonstrate high levels of creativity and initiative. Must possess outstanding communication and relationship skills to establish rapport and be a liaison between the service channels, the Virtual Desktop Operations team, and end users. This position requires a solid Windows 10 and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure troubleshooting background.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Requester requirement analysis to develop both simple and complex application packages, testing/debugging of existing and upcoming software versions, and application deployment at enterprise level with defined success metrics.
- Collaborate with the Operations support teams, Platform teams, product owners, vendors, and VDI end users in resolving various application issues or problems.
- Troubleshoot all application packages as required, document and update the technical user guides, and application installation/customization process.
- Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and methodologies and work on additional individual projects as required.
Technology Skills:
- Must have 3+ years of experience in application packaging, Windows 10, and desktop troubleshooting.
- Must have a very good understanding of the Windows System Registry and file system.
- Experience in virtualization (VDI) technologies like App Volumes, VMware Horizon, User Environment Manager, and Ivanti AppSense.
- Good understanding of infrastructure components (vSphere, Network, Storage, DNS, DHCP, Firewall, etc.)
- Scripting knowledge – PowerShell and batch scripting.
Professional Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Good understanding of software lifecycle management, and standard application packaging process and workflow.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose problems across multiple disciplines.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Must be able to communicate effectively and build relationships.
- Practical experience in effective time management, including the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Must have enough technical depth to communicate with development and other internal organizations at a peer level; must possess the ability to work independently with minimal management supervision and as a part of a team of engineers.
